Physiological arousal model

The body has an inbuilt system that helps us to lower or raise how much energy we need in it. Sometimes this system goes into overdrive or switches off unexpectedly – this is what we call dysregulated physiological arousal. When the body’s arousal system is working properly we can concentrate, focus and settle when we want to. When the arousal system is not working well, we will struggle to concentrate or focus and strong bodily reactions will take their toll – causing physical symptoms such as blackouts, seizures, tremors, weakness or pain.
